Almost BGN 50 million are invested in the renovation of one of the emblematic buildings in Old Sofia – The robes. More than a year ago, one of the large hypermarket chains operating on the Bulgarian market bought the building and turned it into a space where not only shopping can be done, but also those wishing to get to know a part of the history of the Bulgarian capital.
The renovation of the Halls lasted nearly a year. It is implemented with the support of the National Institute for Immovable Cultural Heritage (NIHN) and the Ministry of Culture.
After nearly 40 years, the clock, which was imported from Germany before 1915 and is located on the second half-floor of the building, can be heard again. The repair of the clock mechanism took over 8 months. It will chime every 15 minutes as well as count down every round hour.
The building is divided into three levels. Archeology is located underground, with the possibility of walking back in time with the help of VR glasses. There is also a bookshop, cafe and meeting and event space.
The store with nearly 14,000 products is located on level 0. It is located on an area of 1800 sq.m. Mainly the goods of Bulgarian producers. In the center of this floor is the emblematic fountain of the building, which has been completely restored. It is made of green marble, delivered specially for the purpose from India and weighs nearly 8 tons.
The second floor, which was a fact before the building was closed, is no longer there. A large part of it has been removed, and a panoramic terrace has been set aside, in the center of which is the clock. There, visitors can drink coffee and eat.
