Without the necessary documentation, they are renovating the facades of the Boza house in Koprivshtitsa, experts in the preservation of immovable cultural heritage announced.< /p>

"We want to draw attention to the fact that with this act of vandalism, not only a valuable example of Bulgarian Revival architecture is being destroyed, but also a cultural monument with historical significance - the place where the first gun of the April Uprising in Koprivshtitsa was fired," he also writes in the report, which is also addressed to Alexander Traikov, director of the main directorate "Inspector for the Protection of Cultural Heritage".

The letter demands immediate measures and the suspension of all activities that may damage the single immovable cultural value, Trafficnews specifies. The specialists also want the imposition of sanctions on the violators and the issuance of instructions for the restoration of the Boza house in accordance with the best European and world restoration practices. The building is privately owned.

Bozov's house was built for Pavel Bozov in 1859. Its style is typical of the symmetrical Bulgarian Revival houses of that time – with a wooden loggia and carved ceilings. It is located on “Mikhail Tsitselkov“ 1. The architectural ensemble around the Kalachev bridge, also called the “First Rifle” bridge, is dominated and completed by the Boza house.

„The Bozo House is an architectural and building monument of culture since 1975. The building has the category of “local importance“ and falls within the boundaries of the group immovable cultural value “Middle Neighborhood“ – part of the architectural-historical reserve “City of Koprivshtitsa”, announced in 1971. This means that any intervention (repair, restoration, conservation, etc.) is carried out according to the requirements of the Law on Cultural Heritage and must be approved by the Ministry of Culture.

In the case of Koprivshtitsa, the interventions must also comply with the Regulations for the construction, development and preservation of the Koprivshtitsa National Architectural-Historical Reserve – in force since 1975 The National Institute for Immovable Cultural Heritage has not submitted a project for the renovation of the Boza house, the NINKN commented to TrafficNews.

Experts from the institute added that the approval procedure is mandatory because it guarantees the preservation of the authenticity of the objects and their environment.

„ The restoration of the Boza House reminds of the case with the Catholic Cathedral „St. Luke“ in Plovdiv. And there, without a project, fiberboard was placed, which damaged part of the decorative decoration of the facades. The fiberboard was removed, but some of the plaster fell with it. Subsequently, a project was drawn up and the real restoration of the temple began”, they recalled the case of the temple under the hills, which the media told us about.

In the National Documentary Archive of the National Institute of Scientific Research, there are files and project documentation created in the 80s of the 20th century. from NIPC (National Institute for Cultural Monuments, the old name of NINKN until 2009).

"Our team did an on-site inspection and it turns out that the construction activities were carried out absolutely illegally, without a coordinated project. For this reason, the case has been handed over to the prosecutor's office," commented Culture Minister Nayden Todorov.

He expressed his displeasure and surprise that the illegal activities are taking place meters from the museum and the town hall in Koprivshtitsa, and no one has filed a report with the Ministry of Culture, but rather architects and artist-restorers have done so.
