Six people died in the race between a car with migrants and a team of "Border Police" in the Burgas region, Chief Commissioner Anton Zlatanov, Director of the "Border Police", confirmed on bTV.
The car that fell into Lake Vaya has a Romanian registration and was driven by a Romanian driver. There were 10 people in it, including the driver.
"The whole situation unfolded in about 34 minutes," said Anton Zlatanov.
"Around 9:20 p.m., a patrol noticed the extremely aggressive and fast driving of the car and tried to stop it. "He didn't obey," he said.
The police used spikes to try to stop the car. The driver tried to avoid them and ended up in the lake.
The six migrants died in the impact, while the other three people and the driver were given medical treatment.
The three migrants said they were from Afghanistan.
