82-year-old former military man Petko Minkov killed his 23-year-old grandson, bearing the same name, with an illegal rifle in the early hours of Saturday, the mayor of the village of Popovitsa Veska Mircheva announced, Focus reports.
The elderly man's wife was seriously ill and had difficulty moving. On Friday evening, his grandson went out with friends near Popovitsa. After midnight, he returned home and started a video call with them until about 2:00 a.m.
People from the village describe the boy as good and non-conflict. He worked as a security guard in a neighboring village and did not use drugs.
The young man is also the first victim. He was sleeping when the older man shot him. There was no quarrel between them. The neighbors did not hear the gunshots, the mayor claims.
The former serviceman did not drink alcohol, nor did he have any mental problems. Years ago, he worked in a nearby military unit, and then he was engaged in animal husbandry.
The young man's mother was the first to suspect that something had happened. She called her son's phone, but did not receive an answer. She asked a relative to check if everything was okay.
When they entered the house, they found the lifeless bodies of the two adults on the first floor, and the body of the young man on the second.
The villagers are puzzled by how this huge tragedy came about. Recently, the grandfather boasted around the village that he had bought his grandson an electric motorbike to help him get to work faster.
After his father's death, the young man often lived with his grandparents, Mircheva said.
