The Ministry of Interior begins a second inspection into the actions of the police authorities and officials in the case of the serious ATV incident in the Sunny Beach resort on August 14 by order of the Minister of Interior Daniel Mitov and by order of the Director of the General Directorate "National Police" Chief Commissioner Zahari Vaskov. This was reported on its website by the Ministry of Interior, quoted by BTA.
The inspection is in connection with a signal from the relatives of the victims. The first inspection into the actions of the police in the case was ordered by the director of the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior – Burgas (ODMVR - Burgas) Senior Commissioner Vladimir Marinov, added the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
BTA recalls that on August 14, five people, including three children, were injured after a road accident with an ATV in the Sunny Beach resort complex. The press center of the University Multi-profile Hospital for Active Treatment in Burgas told BTA that a small child and a woman were admitted to the intensive care unit.
They were hit by a motor vehicle rented and driven by an 18-year-old.
The next day, the Burgas District Prosecutor's Office announced that they were monitoring pre-trial proceedings in connection with a road traffic accident.
Burgas District Prosecutor Maria Markova confirmed that the parents of the 18-year-old detained for the accident are employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Commissioner Marin Dimitrov - Director of the "Security Police and Traffic Police" at the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior - Burgas, stated that an internal investigation has been launched to avoid speculation that there is interference to conceal facts and circumstances, given that the young man's parents are employees of the Ministry of Interior.
On August 18, the court in Nessebar determined a preventive measure for the driver of the ATV "house arrest", and the charge against him is that he caused moderate bodily injuries to five pedestrians as a result of a traffic accident. The measure was protested by the Burgas District Prosecutor's Office and sparked protests in Burgas, Sofia and Plovdiv.
On August 21, the acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov requested from the Burgas Prosecutor's Office the pre-trial proceedings for the ATV traffic accident, in view of his authority to assign the investigation to the National Investigation Service (NIS), the state prosecution announced.
On August 22, the Burgas District Court imposed the most severe preventive measure of "detention in custody" against 18-year-old Nikola Burgazliev, a defendant in the case of five victims after an accident with an electric vehicle in the "Sunny Beach" resort complex.
