Do you remember the times when millions of viewers were in love with Indians and especially in films about feathered chiefs. Well, at least one of these Indians has permanently entered the hearts of viewers around the world. Naked to the waist, Gojko Mitich built his career on this image. Today, at 85 years old, the retired "Indian #1" in the world is looking for adrenaline and still diving in deep waters.

Romances with actresses, an Italian daughter and a bitter tragedy: this is how the life of the most famous “Indian“ of Serbian origin goes. The sex symbol of the recent past, Gojko Mitic, who had all the women of Soca swooning over him, has a stormy love life today. Gojko Mitic is still in enviable shape, works out every day, “always finds time for love“, he boasts. Last year, the legend from “Occeola” admitted that he was living with a new woman in Berlin.
He was born on June 13, 1940 in the village of Strojkovci, Serbia (Yugoslavia), into a peasant family. The early childhood of the boy falls during wartime. Father Živojin Mitić is an active participant in the partisan movement. Since childhood, Gojko Mitić has been in love with sports, playing handball and football, doing athletics, gymnastics and rowing. He is even a member of the Yugoslav national rowing team. “This was of great help to me on the set, while I was steering the long narrow boat - “piroga“, he later recalled. Gojko graduated from the Belgrade Institute of Physical Culture and was going to become a sports coach, but fate decided otherwise.

For the first time on the set, Gojko appeared as a stuntman - he dubbed the main character in the English historical film “Lancelot and the Queen“ (1960). This was followed by a small role in the Italian film “Lord of the Night“. And in the image of an Indian he tried himself in 1964, participating as an extra in a series of films about Winnetou, based on the novels of Karl May. He looked very convincing and in 1965 he received his first major Indian role in the film “Sons of the Great Bear“.
In 1966 he went to East Berlin and began filming at the “DEFA“ film studio in westerns, playing the roles of Indians. He participated in 15 films, where he played the roles of Chingachgook, Osceola, Tecumseh, etc. He is often called the “Eastern Winnetou“, although he did not play the role until 2002.

The charming Gojko Mitić lives in Germany to this day. He is filmed in television series. He also participates in theater productions, where he plays the roles of Truffaldinho, Robin Hood and Spartacus.
The song “Bate Gojko“ by the famous Bulgarian punk band “Hypodil“ is dedicated to him.
The legendary actor lives in the old Berlin quarter “Köpenick” in a modest two-room rented apartment. He receives a low pension and therefore has to play in the Mecklenburg theater. He prefers to ride a bicycle - he goes shopping and tours Berlin with it. In the summer, he canoes in the lakes of Berlin and dives in Greece.
