Russia's fastest train will travel from Moscow to St. Petersburg in two hours at 400 km/h

The line between the two cities will be about 700 kilometers long

The Moscow-St. Petersburg high-speed railway line is included in the Russian capital's rail transport development map for 2026-2030, TASS reported.

The inclusion of the high-speed railway line in the future plan for the Moscow metro emphasizes the strategic importance of the project, according to the information center. On the map, it is connected to the Leningrad-Kazan diameter.

The Moscow-St. Petersburg high-speed railway project is scheduled for completion in 2028. The route will connect the Central and Northwestern Federal Districts. Its implementation is the first step in building a high-speed rail network that will cover 80% of Russia, the information center reported.

The high-speed line between Moscow and St. Petersburg will be approximately 700 km long. A special train will be able to reach speeds of up to 400 km/h. The journey between the cities will take a little over two hours.

The route will include 14 stops.

The journey to Tver will take 39 minutes, and to Zelenograd - 14 minutes.

On July 31, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the government and Russian Railways to take measures to complete the design of all stages of the Moscow-St. Petersburg high-speed railway line. These measures are based on the need to obtain a positive conclusion from the Main Directorate of State Expertise on the design documentation and assessment of the reliability of the estimated costs for all stages of the construction of the high-speed railway.
