Bulgarian Patriarch Daniil will lead a solemn Divine Liturgy in the Bachkovo Monastery on the occasion of the Glorification of the Holy Relics of St. Euthymius, Patriarch of Tarnovo, BNT reported.

The relics of the holy patriarch are kept in the Bachkovo Holy Monastery, and since 2023 a special holiday has been dedicated to their glorification.

Since then, every year Orthodox Christians will honor the holy patriarch on October 22. The main holiday in honor of the saint is on January 20, FOCUS recalls.

Saint Patriarch Evtimii of Tarnovo died in the Bachkovo Monastery.

At the beginning of the last century, towards the end of 1905, during excavations in the narthex of the cathedral church of the Bachkovo Holy Monastery, carried out on the initiative of the then abbot - hieromonk, and later Archimandrite Paisii (Pastirev), the grave and relics of the heavenly patron, prayer intercessor for the Orthodox Bulgarian family and the last Bulgarian patriarch of the Middle Ages were discovered and certified. This is the wonderful and universally revered St. Evtimii of Tarnovo.

St. Evtimii of Tarnovo was born in 1327 in Tarnovo. Gifted by God with rich talents, the very young Evtimii distinguished himself with knowledge and a pure spiritual life. In 1350 he became a monk in the Kilifara Monastery under the leadership of the Venerable Theodosius. Later he lived for several years in Constantinople and on Mount Athos. Returning to Tarnovo, Evtimii secluded himself in a cave near the capital. Other monks settled with him and the monastery "St. Trinity" was formed, which became a hotbed of enlightenment and spiritual life. There, St. Evtimii wrote lives and eulogies, corrected the liturgical books, and translated other texts. In 1375 he was elected patriarch and showed himself to be a good shepherd. When Tarnovo was captured by the Ottoman Turks, he bravely stood up for the people. He was sent into exile in Southern Bulgaria, where he died around 1402.
