On August 10, marks World Laziness Day. It is said to have been celebrated for more than 100 years, but no one knows exactly since when. The first enthusiasts must have been too lazy to record the first year.
The motto of the celebrants today is "Let us indulge in wanton idleness and let our mind and body be lazy all day long. Let's do nothing this day". According to the celebrants, this will give a new boost to the spirit. "Remember that a new, even better way of doing nothing can always be discovered”, is written under the date August 10 by those who have made an effort to perpetuate their laziness.
The Church considers laziness among the seven deadly sins. In past centuries, it was considered a privilege of the rich, notes BGNES.
August 10 is also designated as a day of reckoning about how lazy we have been in the past year.
Laziness is considered to be a driving force of progress because of inventions such as the remote control, the escalator, the washing machine, the sink or the elevator.
