At the age of 83, the cosmonaut Vyacheslav Zudov, who participated in the emergency landing of the Soyuz-23 spacecraft, TASS reported with reference to the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center.

„Vyacheslav Dmitrievich died at the age of 83 on June 12, 2024”, the Central Committee said.

They added that the farewell ceremony for the cosmonaut will take place on June 14 at the Federal Military Memorial Cemetery of the Ministry of Defense of Russia in the city of Mytishti, Moscow Region.

During the Soyuz-23 mission, which took place in October 1976, the eponymous spacecraft carrying cosmonauts Vyacheslav Zudov and Valery Rozhdestvensky crashed into Lake Tengiz in Kazakhstan two days after launch. The reason for the emergency landing was a failure of the "Igla" automatic docking system. - after "Soyuz-23" orbit maneuvers ran out of fuel and the ship was forced to return to Earth.
