A 23-year-old Italian man died today after being bitten by a poisonous recluse spider, also called a violin spider, ANSA reported. This is the second fatal accident of this nature this summer in the Apennines, France Press reported, quoted by dariknews.bg.

Giuseppe Russo died at dawn in a hospital in the southern city of Bari from septic shock and multiple organ failure more than a month after he was bitten on the leg.

In July, 52-year-old Sicilian Carabinieri Franco Aiello died as a result of a spider bite of the same species.

The spider, also known as the brown fiddler (Loxosceles rufescens), lives in Mediterranean countries, Asia and North America, writes the World Catalog of Spiders of the Natural History Museum in Bern, notes AFP.

Small in size (up to 7.5 mm), it owes its name to a violin-shaped spot on the body.

It likes dry places, crevices and is often found near people's houses, especially in gardens.
