A passenger was arrested at an Australian airport after exiting a plane that had just stopped through an emergency exit, then walking along the wing and down the plane's engine on the runway, the Associated Press reported. quoted by NOVA.
The flight of airline “Jetstar” arrived at Melbourne Airport from Sydney and stopped at a terminal gate when the man exited the plane through the right emergency exit. In a statement from “Jetstar” it says that when the hatch was opened, an emergency slide automatically deployed from the rear of the wing at the fuselage. “But instead of using it, the man walked along the wing and descended to the ground on one of the two engines”, says a representative of the authorities.
A passenger said the passengers started screaming and yelling when, shortly before opening the hatch, the man started behaving erratically. “He was behaving quite strangely. As soon as the plane started to stop, he got up and went to the seats at the emergency exit, he added.
Australian Federal Police said their agents were immediately notified by airline officials and arrested the man on suspicion of “aggressive behavior and breach of aircraft safety protocol”. He was examined by an Emergency Medical Service team, and then taken to a hospital, where he will remain for further diagnostics.
Melbourne Airport said the man was restrained by crew and ground staff before police arrested him.
