British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch's body recovered from sunken superyacht, Massimo Mariani from the Italian Ministry of the Interior told “Reuters”, quoted by NOVA.
“Lynch's 18-year-old daughter Hannah is still missing,” Mariani said. Divers are searching the area where the vessel sank.
Earlier Thursday, a fifth body was washed ashore from the wreckage of the boat that sank earlier in the week. A CNN crew on the ground saw Italian authorities transfer the body from a lifeboat to ambulances in the Sicilian port of Porticello.
As investigators probe the cause of the shipwreck, the chief executive of the vessel's manufacturer said the Bayesian was “unsinkable”.
"If we look at the extreme weather conditions at the time of the incident, if this was a water tornado, as it appears to be, I would describe it as a “black swan” or an event with a huge impact but a low probability of happening," said marine rescue expert Matthew Shank.
"All industries, not only maritime, face such events. How prepared are we? What risk are we willing to take? What caused the ship to tilt at such an angle is crucial. "Whether it happened because of the keel, whether part of the sail went outside the mast or simply the wind was dangerously strong," he added.
The yacht sank four days ago, but is still a central topic in the news in Italy and the UK. The mystery is further enhanced by the fact that almost at the same time that Mike Lynch drowned, one of his closest associates also died in Britain. He was hit by a car.
The two were the main defendants in a high-profile $11 billion corporate merger case. In June, a California court acquitted them. It is not yet clear how the 56-meter luxury yacht sank.
