The female giant panda Mun Mun from the Berlin Zoo has given birth to twins, the "Associated press", quoted by NOVA.

"The cubs were born on Thursday and are doing well," the zoo reported. They were born just 11 days after ultrasounds revealed 11-year-old Meng Meng was pregnant. The sex of the newborns has not yet been determined.

“ Now is the time to cross your fingers for the first few days, which are critical,”, the zoo said. The newborns weigh only 169 grams and 136 grams, respectively, and are about 14 centimeters long.

In June 2017, Meng Meng and male giant panda Jiao Qing arrived at Berlin Zoo from China. In August 2019, Meng Meng gave birth to twins Meng Xiang and Meng Yuan. They became a big attraction in Berlin, but were brought back to China last December. The country has a long history of temporarily giving its iconic animals to foreign countries, a practice often referred to as “panda diplomacy”.
