A Polish fisherman accidentally found a sword belonging to a Knight Templar in the Vistula River, reports Need To Know.
Andrzej Korpikiewicz from Warsaw went to the banks of the Vistula to see how much the water level in the river had dropped. He soon noticed a rusty piece of metal sticking out of the water. The Pole initially mistook it for a rebar, but pulled it out of the water anyway. Upon closer inspection, the piece of iron turned out to be an ancient sword.
“People spend their whole lives looking for such things, but I came across it quite by accident“, boasted Korpikiewicz.
The sword was well preserved - only the tip of the blade was missing. In addition, the craftsman had carved a cross on the hilt of the ancient weapon.
The next day, Korpikiewicz notified the authorities of the find in accordance with the law. Historians and archaeologists who examined the sword confirmed that it was made in the Middle Ages. According to experts, the artifact could have belonged to a warrior from the Order of the Knights Templar.
The ancient sword is currently being studied by metal experts from the Warsaw Archaeological Museum.
