Bulgaria mourns the legendary musician Kiril Marichkov. Relatives, friends, acquaintances, colleagues, statesmen and politicians expressed their sadness and condolences. Tribute to the memory of the great Bulgarian musician, singer and composer Kiril Marichkov! Rest in peace my friend! Your creativity remains!“ This was written by the prima of Bulgarian music Lili Ivanova.
Yes, we unexpectedly lost KIRILL MARYTCHKOV! With the group “The Foundation“ he was supposed to celebrate his 80th birthday with a big show in Hall 1 of the NDK on October 30. I wouldn't. A man - first of all, a musician, a husband, a father, a grandfather. A life dedicated to the music that makes a whole nation happy.
In the fall of 2022, Kiril Marichkov gave an interview to FACTS. We remind you because Kirill Marichkov always had something to say. Then Alla Pugacheva made world news after suggesting to Russian President Vladimir Putin that she be declared a "foreign agent". Her words in defense of her husband resonated widely because she did – Alla Pugachova. How to accept such a position of an extremely popular person. The emblem of Bulgarian rock music and frontman of the band “Sturtsite“ spoke to FAKTI on the subject. Kiril Marichkov.
- Mr. Marichkov, a few days ago on Instagram, Alla Pugacheva created world news after suggesting to Russian President Vladimir Putin that she be declared a "foreign agent". Thus, she demonstrated her solidarity with her husband Maxim Galkin, who was declared a “foreign agent” for his criticism of sending Russian troops to Ukraine. What do you think of this gesture of hers?
- Well done to her! You see, not all Russians are manipulated and brainwashed. I have friends in Moscow. Soon we heard each other and I saw how they are not afraid to say on the phone that Putin is a criminal, although they know that they are being eavesdropped. According to my friend, most young people, I would say the majority, do not approve of Putin at all, and this is his firm opinion. Only older and isolated people support it. Today there is the Internet, there are various sources of information. If a person wants, he can be informed about what is happening in the world.
- Is this the power of popular personality – was she a musician, an actor, a writer, a public figure, in his desire to dare to oppose a regime?
- This should be his strength, but this strength is not always manifested. There are those who dare not do it. Most artists are against Putin's regime because they are free people. One who deals in art – be it music, be it fine art, etc., he must necessarily value freedom more than security.
Because this is the big dilemma – freedom or security.
Unfortunately, most people tend to replace freedom with security, but they do not know that by depriving themselves of freedom, they are also depriving themselves of security. They understand this later. I understand that not everyone is a hero, but I do not condone those famous musicians who show some kind of approval or rather resignation to Putin's position. Fortunately, they are not rockers, but mainly in the field of the other, the so-called serious music. But what is happening is not in Russia's interest in the slightest, and Putin will soon find out that it is not in his interest either, if he hasn't already. He is practically harming Russia, and those of the art people who support him do so mainly out of fear. They fear that their careers will be ruined, that they won't get paid for their movies and books, not because they love it. Let's not kid ourselves that everyone in North Korea loves Kim Jong-un. And there are people out there who don't like him but can't say anything. They march as one, clap and cry as one. This is just one proof of lack of any kind of democracy. After all, no matter how hard people try to make them into sheep, there will always be some among them who will not like being herded.
- To you, as a musician who sings “…I am not a communist and I never will be. … I'm just human! … I love your hands - calling for freedom!“, what do you think of what is happening in Ukraine. Respectively, the mobilization announced in Russia…
- How can I tell you… I will start by saying that this mobilization will mark the end of Putin. I am categorical in this prediction. The question is whether the end of Putin will not coincide with the end of our civilization. Hopefully, according to old Russian custom, one of his gang saw his bill before he pressed the button. Of course, in the 21st century, aggression and occupation of another country is unacceptable. And Hitler, when he made the Anschluss (annexation) of Austria, said that they were Germans, not Austrians, because they spoke the same language. Now everything is very similar and will end in a similar way.
But let's hope the world survives after that, because Putin probably knows by now that there is no way out and that his end is almost certain.
And like a cornered Doberman with no way out, he will bite, bark, and fight to the death, caught in a trap of his own making. Hopefully a way will be found to give this Doberman a chance to get out and escape with some partial dignity, because with full dignity there is no way.
- Nowadays, has rock music escaped its call to rebellion because the lyrics “took over“ of love, moon and something else…Do you very rarely listen to a Bulgarian song to hear its lyrics?
- There is such a moment, but I am sad to admit that this is also a world trend. Something rock bands that used to say so many IMPORTANT things have been missing any messages lately, and it's not just that. It's not that it's bad to sing about love, the moon and something else, as you say, but it's not just about that…
- There is no rebellion in rock music…
- Isn't that the difference, as Bono (b.c. - the lead singer of U2) said, between pop music and rock music - that according to pop music, everything is fine, and according to rock, nothing is fine, but it can be fixed .
- And let me immerse you a little in today's reality. We are in an election campaign. Do you see anything new in the messages of the parties?
- Unfortunately, I do not see anything new and I am not optimistic about what will happen in the elections. Honestly, I'm tired of voting for the “lesser evil”. This lesser evil has become very, very little. If there is anything new, it is that Kostadin Kostadinov wants to remove us from the European Union and NATO and serve us on a casserole of the Russian bear. On top of that, he is also gaining followers along these lines. I would tell him that sticking up for Putin at this point and selflessly defending his interests is like sticking up for Hitler after the Battle of Stalingrad. That is, he will certainly not succeed. And I will repeat. Russia has no interest in this situation, Russia is losing, Russia is collapsing. Putin is extremely harmful both to Russia and to the whole world.
- You are an openly right-wing person, but where is democracy in Bulgaria? Did we Bulgarianize it in these years of the so-called transition in our country?
- I wouldn't say that I am openly right-wing. Above all, I strive to be a Democrat. There are Democrats both on the left and on the right. Putin is a leftist, isn't he?! He is right-wing, but not a democrat. Hitler is also right-wing, but not a democrat. On the other hand “the left“ Communists are terribly similar to the ultra-right. They are at either end of a line, but that line is not a straight line, but a circle. And they are, in fact, side by side, side by side. Lefties poke righties with their left elbow, and they hit back with their right elbow. They growl, grumble at each other, and it never occurs to them that they are equally harmful. I am a Democrat, but I would say a conservative Democrat.
For me, the main and most important unit in human civilization is the family.
The normal family between a man and a woman. And that is why, in my opinion, the great mistake of the West is the so-called political correctness, according to which you can no longer call a spade a spade. Various “fighters“ against “language of hate“ they call you a homophobe if you claim that the breakdown of the normal family will lead to the degradation of our civilization. Thus, all varieties of political correctness provide wonderful opportunities for Kremlin propaganda to redevelop the thesis of the “pernicious influence of the rotten West”.
A tribute to the memory of the great Bulgarian musician!
