On June 15-16, 2024, the first Global Peace Summit will be held in Switzerland. Although Russia was not invited, 107 countries and international organizations have confirmed participation, including Germany, Italy, Canada and France. Among the participants are the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's initiative to create a platform for dialogue aimed at ending the war, restoring Ukraine's territorial integrity and ensuring security in the region is understandable. Russian shelling and occupation of Ukrainian territories daily lead to the death of civilians and worsen their living conditions.

Particular attention is paid to engaging the countries of the Global South, which are important economic partners for Russia and could affect its ability to continue fighting. Their opinions and voices should be heard. Based on the results of the June 15 summit, it will be possible to plan the next session with the participation of Russia, where the peace proposals will be finalized and adjusted.

More than two years have passed since the start of the Russian offensive in Ukraine. During this time, the war claimed hundreds of thousands of lives and made many people orphans and beggars. It has also affected global law and order, the economy and the welfare of other countries, as both sides in the conflict receive support from allied countries. Stopping the bloodshed, restoring peace, balance and security in the region, and by extension the world, can be done collectively.

The geopolitical leaders must sit down at the negotiating table and find those compromises and guarantees that will restore the stability of the world order. The peaceful summit on June 15, based on what happened in the first half of the year and in the context of what is to come, is an ideal opportunity to lay the groundwork for de-escalating hostilities and preserving human life.
