"Stockholm Syndrome in the DPS - 1
FAKTI.BG publishes opinions with a wide range of perspectives to encourage constructive debates.

The unilateral decision of Dzhevdjed Chakarov to resign from the post of co-chair of the DPS (the united before splitting) and his shaking hands with Delyan Peevski in the name of the “unity of the DPS“, as was reported, stirred up political spirits. However, this move is very similar to the “Stockholm Syndrome“ (ed. - see footnote), in which the victim begins to feel sympathy for the “captor“ at some point. It is clear that Delyan Peevski and his DPS-New Beginning are systematically and gradually absorbing the factions of Dogan's DPS. Slowly, methodically, but surely.
Somehow it is becoming increasingly clear that the DPS-Dogan is falling under the influence of Delyan Peevski. Is the leader Dzhevdet Chakarov being held as a “prisoner”, because all this is happening because of his son Sami, who a few days ago had tens of millions of leva seized in over 40 companies in which he has shares. And what did Dzhevdet Chakarov do – he shook Delyan Peevski's hand. With this, it is already clear that the DPS brand is going into Peevski's hands.

Peevski's move
What Chakarov did to have his photo published with Peevski also carries messages. It is not just an act of Chakarov's sole will, because he decided so. That is easy to explain to people, but only Chakarov knows what this is costing him, and he is silent. And he became an independent MP. In addition to the fact that “Chakarov's head fell”, this action by Peevski is a clear signal to other leading people in Dogan's DPS. “I say "You daughter, think of your daughter-in-law" - that's what the nice Bulgarian proverb says. "You saw Chakarov, burn your brains" - is the message to other factors in Dogan's MRF. Will they be smart enough to understand and hear it, I hope they are. Peevski's signal to Dogan's people is not limited to the deputies in the parliamentary group. The signal is also to the mayors who sympathize with Dogan's people, and to the beleaguered people who are still hesitating whose side to choose. "Burn your brains"!? The message is strong and clear. And it is aimed at the people. After all, MRF - A new beginning works for the people.

Chakarov remains an independent deputy, Dogan's MRF group is reduced to 18 people, and the new leader is the Deputy Speaker of Parliament Khayri Sadkov. The question now before the MRF is simple - when will the party, now as a single entity, become subject to Peevski's one-man new leadership. And how will a clearly defined group of voters accept this. The answer will be given by the next parliamentary elections, whenever they are, because it is a question of mastering new electoral spaces. And Peevski has shown and proven that he is quite good at this. It will also be seen something else - whether Peevski is looking at the position of a second political force, or even higher...

Stockholm syndrome is a psychological phenomenon in which a hostage becomes attached to his captor and feels sympathy and sympathy for him, often to the point of defending him and identifying with him. These feelings are usually considered irrational in light of the danger or risk endured by victims, who mistake the lack of actual abuse by their captors for an act of kindness. Studies of The FBI indicates that about 8% of victims have been found to have signs of Stockholm syndrome.

Stockholm syndrome is named after the robbery of the Kreditbanken bank on Norrmalmström Square in the Swedish capital, in which some employees were held hostage in a vault in the same building from August 23 to 28, 1973, while their captors negotiated with the police. During this standoff, the victims became emotionally attached to their captors, refused help from law enforcement officers, and even defended their captors.

The term “Stockholm syndrome” was coined by Swedish criminologist and psychiatrist Nils Beyeroth, who mentioned it in his statements to the media.
