From leva to euro... That's the question? Will the MPs "become poorer" after the ATM starts dispensing euro notes to them to receive their salary. Otherwise - yes, the dream of every Bulgarian is the MP's salary, because...
According to the current Rules of Parliament, the remuneration of MPs depends on the amount of the average salary in the public sector, which is updated every three months. Looking at the data of the National Statistical Institute as of the end of March 2025, because there is no more recent data, it is seen that it is 2,379 leva (b.r. - 1,216 euros).
The basic salary of MPs is three times this amount or 7,137 leva (b.r. – 3649 euros). About 2/3 of it is added to the basic salary. These are expenses related to their activities or 4,758 leva (b.r. – 2432 euros). Of course, the deputies travel, and for this purpose funds are also provided to cover their transportation costs, housing, daily allowances, and providing rent for a dwelling (if necessary). If the deputy has a scientific degree, there is a supplement (b.r. - for a doctoral degree the supplement is 10% of the basic salary), as well as 1% for each year of service. This makes 713 leva (364 euros), for example.
As is known, the deputies participate in committees, and each participation brings with it additional remuneration, which depends on the function of the representative of the people. If he is the chairman of a committee, he receives 35% on the basic salary - 2,498 leva. (b.r.-1277 euros), 25% or 1,784 leva (b.r.-912 euros) for a deputy chairman, and for an ordinary member of a committee 15% or 1,070 leva (b.r. – 574 euros). This is the money of the deputies who look to the big bank, where the speaker of the parliament sits in the middle.
Leadership positions in the parliament also lead to more money. The speaker of the National Assembly receives 55% above his basic salary - or another 3,925 leva (b.r. – 2,006 euros), the deputy speakers of the National Assembly - 45% or 3,212 leva (b.r. – 1,642 euros). The chairmen of parliamentary groups also receive a 35% additional payment - 2,498 leva. (b.r. – 1277 euros). Each of them can also participate in up to two parliamentary committees, from which they receive additional remuneration as a member or another 15% - thus the funds for participation in two committees amount to another 2,140 leva per month (b.r. – 1094 euros).
And if we have to summarize briefly - we will talk about an ordinary deputy, then he receives - 7,137 leva (b.r. – 3649 euros) basic salary, 4,758 leva (b.r. – 2432 euros) for additional activities. So far, it has become 11,895 leva (b.r. – 6080 euros). If he is the chairman of a committee, another 2,498 leva (b.r.-1277 euros). 1,784 leva (b.r.- 912 euros) for a deputy chairman, and for an ordinary member 1,070 leva (b.r. – 574 euros). If there is a scientific degree - 10% of the basic salary (713 leva (b.r. - 364 euros), for example. Participation in committees brings between 1,070 leva (b.r. - 574 euros) and 2,498 leva (b.r. - 1,277 euros), which makes between 12,965 leva (b.r. - 6,628 euros) and 14,393 leva (b.r. - 7,359 euros).
