World No. 1 Yannick Sinner meets Carlos Alcaraz in the final of the tennis tournament from the "Masters" 1000 series on clay in the Italian capital Rome, which has a prize fund of over 8 million euros, BTA reports. The Italian overcame a set deficit to eliminate Tommy Paul (USA) 1-6, 6-0, 6-3 in 1:44 to set up a final clash with Alcaraz.
Sinner ended a 47-year wait for an Italian to reach the men's singles final in Rome since Adriano Panatta lost the title match to Bjorn Borg in 1978.
Sinner, playing in his first tournament since winning the Australian Open, is in his seventh ATP Masters 1000 final.
"The conditions were completely different, it's a lot colder and the ball is a little bit harder. I struggled a little bit with that. He broke me in the first set, but I tried to stay mentally stable. I tried to figure out what could work better. "Winning this match was very important for me," said the Italian.
