The European Commission, led by Ursula von der Leyen, will face two no-confidence votes in the European Parliament in October, DPA reports, BTA reports.

European Parliament President Roberta Mezzola informed MEPs that the two proposals have already gathered the necessary support. Under EP rules, a motion of no confidence requires the signatures of at least one-tenth of the 719 MEPs to be debated and voted on.

The two political groups, the Left and the right-wing "Patriots for Europe", announced their intention to table the no-confidence motions last week, hours after von der Leyen gave a speech to the European Parliament in which she outlined the Commission's priorities for the coming years.

The "Patriots for Europe" have criticised the Commission's economic policy, while the Left has accused the executive of inaction on the situation in the Gaza Strip.

Von der Leyen has already overcome a no-confidence motion in July this year, when 175 MEPs voted "in favour" and 360 "against", well short of the required two-thirds majority.
