Deputies in Turkey are gathering for a ceremonial session in the Mejlis, which traditionally begins the new political season on October 1 in Ankara, BTA reported.
According to the information published on the official website of the institution, the fourth plenary session of the 28th Parliament of Turkey will begin at 1 p.m. with a flower-laying ceremony in front of the Ataturk monument, which is located nearby, and at 2 p.m. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will make an address to the people's representatives.
The deputies, who number 600 in the Turkish Parliament, are returning to work after a vacation that lasted nearly two and a half months. By the end of October, proposals from the Presidency to extend the period for the participation of Turkish military personnel in missions abroad must also be considered. It is planned to extend the period for sending military personnel to Iraq and Syria by two years, as well as extend the period during which Turkish military personnel will continue to serve in the UN peacekeeping forces in Lebanon. The parliament must also vote on extending the participation of Turkish military personnel in UN missions in the Central African Republic by one year.
A member of the Council of Judges and Prosecutors is also to be elected. The procedure has already been activated. It provides for a joint committee, with the participation of members of the Constitutional and Judiciary Committees, to select three candidates to propose to the deputies, and after the vote in the plenary hall in early November, the new member of the Council of Judges and Prosecutors will be elected.
