Nine people, including a child, died as a result of heavy rain in Odessa, the State Emergency Service in Odessa Region reported on its Facebook page, BTA reported.
Almost all day yesterday and at night, rescuers eliminated the consequences of the bad weather in Odessa and Odessa Region, the message said.
"All night long, rescuers helped evacuate people blocked by water, pulled out cars, pumped water out of buildings. A total of 362 people were rescued, 227 vehicles were evacuated," the State Emergency Service reported.
"In 7 hours, Odessa received rain close to the norm of precipitation for almost two months. No sewage system can withstand such a load. The situation is complex, but under control. All utilities have been activated to eliminate the consequences of the rainfall," the mayor of the city, Gennady Trukhanov, reported in the "Telegram" application.
The Odessa City Hall calls on residents to refrain from traveling around the city this morning without urgent need, especially by car.
"We appeal to the heads of enterprises and institutions, if possible, to organize remote work for staff. Schools have switched to distance learning," the mayor's office reported.
The Bulgarians in the Odessa region number over 150,000 people and are the third largest according to the latest official census in Ukraine. About 50-60,000 Bulgarians live in the city of Odessa itself. The largest compact Bulgarian population is concentrated in the Bolgrad, Izmail and Belgorod-Dniester regions.
