Vote of no confidence against Ursula von der Leyen in the European Parliament - 1

MEPs from four political groups in the European Parliament will support a vote of no confidence against European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen next week in Strasbourg. This was clarified at a press conference today by spokesmen for the respective groups, BTA reports.

As BTA reported, the EP will vote on Thursday on two votes of no confidence, submitted by the groups “Patriots for Europe“ and the Left, respectively. The group “Europe of Sovereign Nations“ stated that they would support the vote of “Patriots for Europe“ and would abstain from voting on the Left. The European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) group announced that there is still no common position, but some of its MEPs are expected to support the Left's proposal.

According to “Patriots for Europe“, von der Leyen is responsible for financial scandals in the EC, lack of transparency, failure in migration policy and for the concluded trade agreement with the US. The Left's proposal criticizes the EC's policy on the conflict in Gaza, nature conservation and international trade agreements, including with Washington.

The discussion of the motions for a vote of no confidence is scheduled for Monday. For the vote to be successful, a two-thirds majority of the votes cast is required, the EP specifies.

The first vote of no confidence against Ursula von der Leyen was held on 10 July at the initiative of the ECR, but failed to gather support. The EC President then stated that such actions are only welcomed by the EU's enemies, among whom she named Russia.
