Britain sends aid to Belgium to tackle drones - 1

The UK will send equipment and an expert team to Belgium to help the country combat drones that have led to the temporary closure of airports, the head of the British armed forces, Richard Knighton, announced today, quoted by Reuters, BTA reports.

In the past week, numerous drones have been observed over airports and military bases in Belgium, with similar incidents in recent months causing serious disruptions in various parts of Europe.

Knighton told the BBC that the Belgian side had requested help and that the equipment and personnel were already on their way. "At the end of last week, the Secretary of State for Defence and I agreed to send our people and equipment to support Belgium," he added, without specifying what kind of equipment or how many experts would be sent.

The British military chief stressed that it was still unclear who was behind the drone activity, but noted that Russia had been involved in "hybrid warfare" in recent years.
