Drones have been spotted in the area of military bases in the UK nearly 200 times since the beginning of the year, according to official data presented by the Minister of State at the UK Ministry of Defense Vernon Coker, PA Media and DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
The exact number is 187 cases. This statistic will increase current concerns about the incursions of unmanned aerial vehicles into classified areas, the agencies note.
British Defense Secretary John Healy recently announced that powerful new means will be introduced into service, thanks to which the army will be able to shoot down drones that approach its facilities, promising to "do whatever is necessary for the British citizen".
"Since January 1, 2025, 187 drones have been sighted near military bases in the UK," said Coker.
"We will not comment on the confidentiality of the bases, nor the specific security measures taken to detect and neutralize the drones, but we can assure you that we take the safety of our personnel, assets and operations extremely seriously. "We are implementing multi-layered security measures, including anti-drone mechanisms that can detect and shoot down drones," the Minister of State at the British Ministry of Defence announced.
