Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has criticized the violence carried out by what he described as a “handful of Israeli extremists“, who he said do not represent the settlers living in the West Bank, reported Agence France-Presse, quoted by BTA.
“I take very seriously the violent unrest incited by a handful of extremists who do not represent the settlers in Judea and Samaria (the West Bank) and who are trying to administer justice themselves“, Netanyahu said.
“I intend to take up this matter personally and summon the relevant ministers as soon as possible, in order to "responds to this serious phenomenon," the prime minister added.
His statement comes amid a spate of attacks in the West Bank, including an attack on a Palestinian village near Bethlehem. The incident appeared to be a response to Israeli forces' demolition of an outpost built by Jewish settlers in the area.
