Venezuela has prepared two options for responding in the event of an attack by the US: organizing guerrilla resistance throughout the country or deliberately provoking riots in Caracas, Reuters reported, citing its sources.
According to the source, the first strategy involves deploying small military units in over 280 locations to carry out sabotage.
The other possible scenario is called “anarchization“. This includes using intelligence agencies and armed supporters of the ruling party to create unrest in the capital and turn Venezuela into an “ungovernable country“.
Earlier, Trump announced on Truth Social that the airspace over Venezuela would be closed. He said that all “airlines, pilots, drug traffickers and people“ should consider “the airspace over and around Venezuela completely closed“.
Washington accuses Venezuelan authorities of not being proactive enough in combating drug smuggling. The US Navy has deployed a strike group of ships led by the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford, a nuclear submarine and more than 16,000 troops to the Caribbean Sea. Since September, US forces have sunk at least 20 motorboats in the region, killing more than 80 people.
US media have repeatedly reported that the United States could soon begin strikes on the republic. Trump said Washington would "very soon" begin ground operations to combat drug trafficking from Venezuela, but did not provide details about possible military operations.
