The Greek parliament approved last night in a closed session the purchase of 36 PULS multiple rocket launcher systems from Israel worth between 650 million and 700 million euros, two sources familiar with the matter told Reuters, BTA reported.
Greece plans to spend about 28 billion euros by 2036 on modernizing its army, the agency recalls. Information about the talks between Greece and Israel about purchasing the system emerged in November.
Greece is also talking with Israel about developing an air defense dome in Greece worth 3 billion euros. The Israeli PULS multiple launch rocket system has a range of 300 km and, according to sources, will help strengthen the defenses on the border with Turkey and on the islands in the Aegean Sea.
According to the information, the deal provides for the production of components of the system in Greece. Reports of Greece's intentions to deploy missile systems on the Aegean islands have caused irritation in Turkey.
