The impasse continues! Greek farmers reject government invitation for talks - 1

Greek farmers have rejected the government's invitation for talks, extending the ongoing impasse, "Kathimerini" reports.

The decision came after a meeting on Saturday of farm representatives from across the country in Nikaia, near the central Greek city of Larisa.

Farmers said they will send their demands to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and relevant ministries on Sunday, seeking clear answers before any meeting.

Mitsotakis initially invited them to a meeting on Monday.

Thousands of farmers have deployed tractors and trucks in blockades across the country for days, disrupting traffic at several points on major highways and periodically blocking border crossings. They are demanding over 600 million euros in delayed aid from the European Union (EU) and other payments.

Each carrier is losing over 100 euros per truck per day due to the blockades. This was stated on television by the executive director of the Union of International Carriers, Yordan Arabadzhiev.

He warned that this will inevitably affect the financial situation of transport companies in our country.

"We are again in a situation in which the Bulgarian transport business must suffer losses. For the second time, we have notified the Prosecutor General of Greece about the actions of Greek farmers and the blockades of border crossings. We insist on identifying the guilty parties, as well as the police officers who are not doing their job," stressed Arabadzhiev.

He pointed out that a large part of Bulgarian transport companies use Greek transport corridors. Greece is a major destination for bilateral shipments, and carriers that rely on ferry connections to Italy, France and Spain also pass through the country. The blockade has forced them to use alternative routes, increasing costs and delivery times.
