Russia expresses readiness to assist Iran on its nuclear program - 1

Russia is ready to support Iran in seeking acceptable solutions to its nuclear program, while Western countries are violating agreements in order to restore sanctions against Tehran, TASS reports, quoting Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov after a meeting with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi, BTA reports.

"We discussed in detail the situation surrounding the Iranian nuclear program in the context of the aggressive and illegal anti-Iranian policy of some Western countries. "Russia reaffirms its readiness to help its Iranian partners in finding solutions to the crisis," Lavrov said.

The Russian top diplomat added that Western countries, violating all existing agreements and the legal norms of the UN Security Council, are making efforts to restore sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran, although they have long expired along with UN resolutions.

"We hope that the UN Secretary-General, who is also involved in this situation, clearly realizes that they are trying to trap him, and will not allow his authority and reputation to be used to implement the illegal plans of Western countries," Lavrov stressed.

He noted that any decisions on possible agreements should be made independently by the Iranian leadership, taking into account the interests of the people and Iran's right to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes as a full member of the Non-Proliferation Treaty.
