French President Emmanuel Macron said it would be “useful“ for Europe to resume dialogue with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, AFP reported.
“I believe it is in our interest as Europeans and Ukrainians to find a suitable basis to resume this discussion“, Macron said.
He added that Europeans must find a way to do this “in the coming weeks“.
In July, Putin and Macron held their first telephone conversation in three years. The two leaders discussed the Ukrainian conflict, the escalation between Iran and Israel and the US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. The two sides agreed to maintain contact to coordinate their positions on the Middle East.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the phone call between Putin and Macron was substantive. According to AFP, citing the Elysee Palace, Paris confirmed its intention to continue the dialogue with Moscow.
