Zelensky: Several draft documents, including security guarantees, have already been prepared - 1

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said today that several draft documents, including security guarantees, have already been prepared as a result of talks between the US and Ukraine on ending Russia's war in Ukraine, Reuters reported, BTA reported.

US officials held talks with Ukrainian and European delegations in Miami this weekend and had a separate meeting in Florida with Russian officials. This comes as Washington seeks to explore options for resolving the nearly four-year-old conflict.

“They worked productively with President (Donald) Trump's envoys and several draft documents have already been prepared“, Zelensky wrote in “Ex“ after being briefed on the talks by Ukrainian negotiators Rustem Umerov and Andriy Gnatov.

“In particular, they include documents on security guarantees for Ukraine, on reconstruction and on a basic framework for ending this war“, he added.

Under pressure from the United States to quickly reach a peace agreement, Kiev is trying to balance the initial proposal, which many observers believe favors Moscow, which wants Ukraine to give up more territory and limit its military capabilities, Reuters reports.

“Today's points are arranged in such a way as to meet the goal "the war must actually be ended and the need to prevent a third Russian invasion," Zelensky said.

Russia also sent troops to Ukraine in 2014, when it seized and annexed Crimea and supported a separatist uprising in eastern Ukraine.

Zelensky's comments came against the backdrop of a massive Russian attack on Ukraine's energy system that killed at least three people and caused widespread power outages as Ukraine prepares to celebrate Christmas.

The Russian newspaper "Izvestia" meanwhile quoted Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov as saying that talks between Russia and the United States in Miami to resolve the conflict in Ukraine should not be seen as a breakthrough.
