The United States has struck a factory in Venezuela suspected of cocaine production, Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced on his page on the social network X.
„We know that Trump has struck a factory in Maracaibo. We fear they were mixing cocaine paste and taking advantage of its proximity to the sea“, he wrote.
Maracaibo is a densely populated city in northwestern Venezuela with a population of over 2 million people. It is located on the shores of the strait that connects Lake Maracaibo with the Caribbean Sea.
A day earlier, CNN, citing its sources, reported that the US Central Intelligence Agency had carried out a drone strike on a port facility on the Venezuelan coast in early December.
It was noted that this strike could significantly escalate tensions between the United States and Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, whom Washington is pressuring to resign through an aggressive military campaign.
In September 2025, the Donald Trump administration began a series of military strikes against ships and facilities that Washington links to Venezuelan drug cartels. As of December 30, the United States had carried out at least 30 strikes and was planning a ground operation.
