On New Year's Eve, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko signed a decree pardoning 22 people, the Telegram channel “Baseyn Pervogo“, close to the presidential press service, reported.
All of them have filed a petition to the head of state for clemency, admitted their guilt and expressed remorse. Twenty people were convicted of extremist crimes. Among those pardoned are seven men and 15 women, 11 of whom have minor children.
The president's decision to pardon was made for humanitarian reasons, in the interests of their families and taking into account the positive character traits of the pardoned individuals.
In mid-December, it became known that as part of the agreements reached with US President Donald Trump, Lukashenko had decided to pardon 123 citizens of various countries convicted of espionage, terrorism and extremism.
