The US administration has considered the first day of talks in Abu Dhabi, which were attended by Russian, Ukrainian and American representatives, productive.
This was stated by a White House official, who remained anonymous, quoted by NBC News.
„A trilateral meeting between the United States, Ukraine and Russia was productive. The talks will continue today,“ the source told the TV channel.
According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the controversial issue of territory remains the main obstacle to reaching an agreement in these negotiations, BTA reported.
These are the first known direct talks between Moscow and Kiev on the American plan to end the war.
According to Ukrainian chief negotiator Rustem Umerov, yesterday's talks focused “on the conditions for ending the war set by Russia and on the logical next steps in the negotiation process, aimed at a dignified and lasting peace“.
“More meetings are planned for Saturday,“ Umerov added.
On the Russian side, the delegation is led by Gen. Igor Kostyukov - head of military intelligence (GRU).
Washington is represented by special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner - son-in-law of US President Donald Trump.
