European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has confirmed the “unwavering” European Union support for Ukraine during a phone call with President Volodymyr Zelensky, held ahead of the upcoming peace talks in Abu Dhabi this week, News.bg reports.

“Day after day, year after year, Europe's support for Ukraine remains unwavering“, von der Leyen wrote on the social network X after her conversation with the Ukrainian head of state.

She recalled that the EU is already sending hundreds of generators to ensure heating and lighting in war-torn areas, and that the bloc has offered a loan of 90 billion euros for the next two years.

Von der Leyen stressed that the EU, together with its American partners, is working on creating a single framework for prosperity with Ukraine. She added that a 20th package of sanctions against Russia will be presented very soon. “The aim is to increase pressure on Moscow to return to the negotiating table with a genuine intention for peace“, the Commission President said.

Meanwhile, Volodymyr Zelensky announced that a new meeting between Russia, the US and Ukraine will be held on February 4-5 in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
