The UN children's agency UNICEF said last night that it was "outraged" after two truck drivers hired by the agency to deliver fresh water to families in the Gaza Strip were killed in Israeli shelling, Reuters reported, BTA reported.
UNICEF said in a statement that the incident occurred during a routine water delivery yesterday morning at the Mansoura water station in the northern part of the enclave, from which water is also supplied to Gaza City.
Two other people were injured in the attack.
UNICEF said it was suspending its activities at the site and called on Israeli authorities to investigate the shooting, stressing that humanitarian workers, citizens and vital water infrastructure must be protected under international humanitarian law.
