The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has summoned Iranian Ambassador Mohammad Fatali for a meeting over the attacks on two Indian-flagged ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

The meeting with the diplomat was held by Indian Foreign Minister Vikram Misri, Reuters reported, citing official sources.

During the talks, the Indian side expressed serious concern about the attack on the tankers, which, according to the Ministry of External Affairs, were carrying crude oil. New Delhi demands that Tehran take measures to quickly restore navigational safety and resume unhindered passage of ships through the strait to India, the article states.

The Iranian ambassador was instructed to convey the position of the Indian government to the leadership of his country. The Indian side is currently awaiting Iran's assistance to resolve the situation and prevent similar incidents in the future.

On April 18, 2026, an incident occurred in the Strait of Hormuz with two Indian-flagged ships being fired upon by Iranian forces.

According to the United Kingdom Maritime Safety Organization (UKMTO), two ships of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) approached a tanker 37 kilometers northeast of Oman and opened fire without warning. The ship, which according to The Hindu was carrying approximately 2 million barrels of Iraqi oil, was targeted.

The second ship was also fired upon. The incident occurred in the waters between the islands of Qeshm and Larak. The crews and the ships are unharmed.
