The second ship with aid for the civilian population in the Gaza Strip sailed from the port of Larnaca shortly after 2 p.m. today, BNR reports. With it, the international maritime humanitarian corridor from Cyprus to the Palestinian enclave enters its full development.
The ship "Jennifer" is loaded with 500 tons of aid, mainly food - sugar, flour, canned goods. The shipment was collected by the international volunteer organization "World Central Kitchen" (World Central Kitchen) as well as the first shipment that left Cyprus on March 12.
The second mission also transports equipment and medicine.
The cargo has been inspected by both the competent authorities of Cyprus and Israel's experts at the port, in accordance with the agreement reached, Deputy Government Spokesman Yannis Antoniou said this morning.
The "Jennifer" is expected to sail. to last 3 days as it will also transport the shipment unloading platform. It will be accompanied by the "Open Arms", the first ship to pass the rescue sea route, which will help unload the containers in Gaza.
The departure of the second ship was delayed by almost two weeks than originally expected due to unfavorable weather conditions in the region.
The delivery of humanitarian aid along the Cyprus-Gaza sea corridor will speed up and increase following the US construction of temporary port facilities off Gaza. They are expected to be completed around April 15 instead of the planned May 1 deadline, President Nikos Christodoulidis said after a meeting this week with US Ambassador to Nicosia Julie Fisher and US military officials.
The President of the European Parliament, Roberta Mezzola, will be in Larnaca on Tuesday to get a first-hand look at the work being done on the EU-backed Maritime Humanitarian Corridor.
