A Missouri man was executed yesterday for killing his cousin and her husband nearly two decades ago in an attack that left the couple's 4-year-old daughter home alone and unharmed, the Associated Press reported, citing from BTA.

52-year-old Brian Dorsey was pronounced dead at 6:11 p.m. after a single injection of the sedative pentobarbital at Bonne Terre State Prison, Karen Poiman, director of communications for the Missouri Department of Prisons, said by email.< /p>

It was the first execution in Missouri this year after four in 2023. It came hours after the U.S. Supreme Court rejected the inmate's latest appeals.

In his closing statement, Dorsey expressed remorse and sorrow for the murders.

"Words cannot do justice to the weight of my guilt and shame," Dorsey said in the written statement.

Dorsey, 52, a former Jefferson City resident, was convicted of killing Sarah and Ben Bonney on Dec. 23, 2006, at their home near New Bloomfield. Prosecutors said earlier that day, Dorsey called Sarah Bonney asking to borrow money to pay two drug dealers who were at his apartment.

That evening, Dorsey went to the Bonnies' home. After they went to bed, Dorsey retrieved a shotgun from the garage and killed them both before sexually assaulting Sarah Bonney's body, prosecutors said. Police said Dorsey stole several items from the home and tried to pay off a drug debt with some of the stolen items.
