US President Joe Biden confirmed today that his support for Israel is "unwavering" against the backdrop of Iranian threats of retaliatory actions after the Israeli airstrike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, reported Agence France-Presse, quoted by BTA.
Iran "is threatening to launch a major attack on Israel", the US president said at a joint press conference at the White House with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
"As I told Prime Minister (Benjamin) Netanyahu, our commitment to the security of Israel in the face of these threats from Iran and its allies is unwavering," Biden added.
"I repeat: steadfast. We will do everything we can to protect Israel's security," added the American president.
The American leader's comments come at a time of great tension between him and the Israeli prime minister, for example, Biden has publicly stated that Benjamin Netanyahu is making a "mistake" in Gaza.
Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said yesterday that Israel would be "punished" after the Israeli attack on April 1 in Syria, according to AFP.
