Egyptian air defenses are on alert, Egyptian sources from the armed forces and from security services amid fears of an attack by Iranian drones targeting Israel, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

Egypt's General Military Command has formed a team to monitor the situation and make the necessary decisions about the state of the country's airspace, the sources said.

Egypt expressed "serious concern" in connection with the attack on its neighbor Israel and called for "restraint". Egypt's foreign ministry said the announced Iranian attack was a sign of a "dangerous escalation" of the tension between the two sides.

Previously, Egypt warned of the danger of intensifying the conflict as a result of "Israel's war in the Gaza Strip".

The government in Cairo said it was in constant contact with all parties involved in the conflict to bring the situation under control.

In 1979, Egypt became the first Arab country to make peace with Israel.

Jordanian air defenses are ready to intercept and shoot down Iranian drones or other aircraft that violate its airspace, two regional security sources said, quoted by Reuters and BTA

The sources said the army is also on high alert and radar systems are monitoring drone activity.

State media reports that Jordan has declared a state of emergency amid the threat of an Iranian attack on Israel. However, a spokesman for the Jordanian government denied this information and told the state news agency Petra that "there is no cause for concern among citizens". He added that the government will take action against any media that spreads unconfirmed rumors or allegations.

Residents of several cities in the north of the country, close to Syria, as well as in the central and southern regions, said that there had been an increase in the number of planes flying over the sky. A security source said the country's air force was stepping up reconnaissance flights.

Earlier, Jordan said it had closed its airspace to all arriving, departing and transiting aircraft from last night, which officials cited by Reuters said was a precaution in case of an Iranian strike along the border.

Jordan shares borders with Syria and Iraq, where Iranian-backed militias operate, and is also adjacent to Israel and its occupied West Bank.

Amman is watching the war between Israel and the Iranian-backed Palestinian group Hamas with growing concern, fearing it could draw Jordan into the conflict, Reuters notes.

At the end of last year, Jordan asked the US to deploy Patriot air defense systems in the country to strengthen border protection. Officials say the Pentagon has since increased military aid to the kingdom, a major US ally in the Middle East where hundreds of US troops are based and where large-scale military exercises are held throughout the year.

Lebanon, which like Jordan borders Israel, announced that it was closing its airspace after the Iranian attack, AFP reported.
