The British maritime security company "Ambri" announced last night that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) intercepted an unmanned aerial vehicle near the Israeli Red Sea port city of Eilat, Reuters reported, citing BTA.
The agency specifies that according to "Ambri" the drone was sent from the territory of Yemen.
From "Ambri" have also reported that yesterday there were unusually high levels of detection of objects within the range of the radar system (Automatic Identification System) off the coast of Eilat and the neighboring Jordanian port of Aqaba.
"This was a result of countermeasures taken regarding electronic warfare," the company said in a statement.
"Through the air defense system "Sea Dome" the combat missile ship "Saar 6" "successfully intercepted an unmanned aerial vehicle that approached Israeli airspace from the southeast," reads an IDF post from last night on the "X" social platform.
"Sea Dome" is the naval version of the Israeli air defense system "Iron Dome" ("Iron Dome"). For the first time in history, it was put into action on Tuesday, when it intercepted a drone sent by Yemen also over Eilat, Reuters recalls.
Eilat is often the target of rockets and drones launched by Iran-backed Yemeni Houthi rebels, who demonstrate their solidarity with the radical Palestinian group Hamas, which is at war with Israel in the Gaza Strip, the agency notes.
