President of Poland Andrzej Duda met yesterday privately with former US President Donald Trump, who is a contender for the presidential nomination of the Republican Party for the upcoming American elections for the head of state in November this year, the Associated Press reported, quoted by BTA.
Duda held the meeting during his visit to New York.
Trump welcomed the Polish head of state in his skyscraper "Trump Tower", according to the AP. "He did a fantastic job. He is my friend," said the former American president.
Duda, whom Reuters describes as a nationalist and whose term expires next year, was one of Trump's preferred international partners during his time in the White House, Reuters recalled.
"We talked about our cooperation... We just know each other in a human aspect as two, I would say, in a sense friends,", Duda said. Reuters points out that the prospect of Trump returning to the presidency of the United States raises concerns among many European leaders that the American side will reduce its support both for Ukraine, which is a neighboring country of Poland, and for NATO allies.
"We had four glorious years together. We have always been behind Poland, in every way," Donald Trump also said, quoted by AP.
