A young woman has died after being shot on the campus of Delaware State University, the Associated Press reported. quoted by BTA, referring to the local authorities.
Police said an 18-year-old Wilmington woman, who was not registered as a student, was found with a gunshot wound to the upper body. The incident happened near the "Warren-Franklin Hall" dormitory, where mostly freshmen are accommodated.
Immediately after the shooting, the victim was given first aid, after which she was taken to campus, where medics pronounced her dead. No other injuries were reported in the shooting. So far, the police have not released information about a suspected perpetrator.
A statement from the university said the campus will remain closed for the time being, all events have been canceled and police security has been increased.
Police are investigating the case, which has been classified as a homicide.
