In the first quarter, the German government has issued authorizations for arms exports worth 5 .2 billion euros, with 74% of this amount for Ukraine. Information about this was published on the website of the German Ministry of Finance, TASS reported.
„Ukraine, targeted for 74% of total approvals in the first quarter of 2024, continues to be the main recipient country of German arms exports,” said Sven Giegold, State Secretary of the Ministry of Economy and Protecting the country's climate. The politician emphasized that “the figures are an illustration of Germany's ongoing and wide-ranging support for Ukraine in its self-defense”.
According to the data provided, arms exports from Germany more than doubled compared to the same period in 2023 (2.4 billion euros). Aid to Ukraine during the reporting period increased to €3.8 billion compared to €497 million in the first quarter of 2023
Germany is the second largest arms supplier to Ukraine after the United States. In total, Germany has allocated funds for military support to Kiev or provided commitments for future spending of around 28 billion euros.
