Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky today thanked the Senate of the US Congress for approving military and economic aid to Ukraine in the amount of 61 billion dollars, reported France Press, quoted by BTA.
"Thank you to Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Republican Leader Mitch McConnell for their strong leadership in pushing this bipartisan legislation, and thank you to all US senators from both parties who supported the legislation,", Zelensky wrote on social media , after the Senate approved the aid.
The Senate approved an aid package totaling $95 billion. The legislation was supported by 79 senators and 18 voted "against". The package was approved by the House of Representatives on Saturday and includes funds for Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan and US partners in the Indo-Pacific region. For aid to Ukraine, 60.84 of the $95 billion in aid is earmarked for Ukrainian forces to continue their fight against Russia.
The United States is the main donor of military aid to Ukraine in its battle with Russia, but new aid has been blocked for months in Congress. It is the first aid package for Ukraine approved by Congress since the Republican Party took control of the House of Representatives in January 2023.
"I also appreciate the support of President Biden and I hope that the bill will soon be signed," Zelensky also stated.
