Students barricaded the entrance to the library of Trinity College in Ireland, which houses the famous medieval manuscript of the Book of Kells, and set up a tent camp, demanding that the college sever all ties to the “genocidal“ Israel, said the college's student union president, Laszlo Molnarfi.

„The Book of Kells is closed indefinitely. One cannot conduct business as usual between Trinity College and the genocidal state of Israel!“

Photos he posted show a pile of wooden benches blocking the entrance to the building. The students pitched about 40 tents on the college lawn, with Palestinian flags displayed on poles.

Before that, there were similar protests in the USA. Thus, the campuses of prestigious American universities have in recent days become the epicenter of outrage over the Israeli operation in the Gaza Strip, which has led to the death of many Palestinian civilians, and the aid that Washington provides to its main Middle Eastern ally. The protests intensified amid US approval of a new aid package for Israel.

According to the latest figures, at least 167 people were detained on Wednesday and Thursday in pro-Palestine protests that took place at several educational institutions in the United States. On Tuesday, around 300 protesting students were detained in New York alone. President Joe Biden said Thursday that the student unrest had exceeded the scope of peaceful protest permitted by law and that authorities would not tolerate violence.
