The death toll from floods in southern Brazil has risen from 39 to 56, with 74 people injured and 67 missing. This was reported by CNN Brasil with reference to the civil protection service of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, located on the border with Uruguay.
According to the department's report, bad weather reigns in 281 municipalities of the state. More than 370,000 people have already been affected by the rains that hit the Rio Grande do Sul territory.
The Civil Protection Office notes that the number of victims of natural disasters this year is already higher than in September 2023, when the Brazilian state was also hit by a cyclone. Then 54 deaths were registered.
At the beginning of the week, rains started in southern Brazil. The region was visited by the country's president, Luis Inacio Lula da Silva.
